2023 Annual Horseshoe Lake Boat Parade

Sunday, August 6th, 2023
Meet at the Rock on Horseshoe Lake
Parade leaves at 9PM Sharp!
Decorate and Light Up Your Boat and Your Dock!

Decorate your boat or dock with lights and dazzle us all during this annual Horseshoe Lake favourite tradition.

Even if you're not participating in your boat, you can still decorate your dock with lights and cheer on the boats from shore.

The parade route will leave from the big rock on Shuylers Island at 9:00 PM sharp and is expected to take an hour and a half.  As usual, there will be a lead boat and new this year, there will be a boat assigned to bring up the rear of the parade.  A reminder that the parade will circle Elsie Bay in Little Horseshoe but will not proceed through the narrows.

Thanks to Kathy & Paul Donaldson for leading the parade and to Rob Dippell for bringing up the rear of the parade in his boat.

Some safety notes ...

  • If you have a raft or other floating object in front of your cottage, please light it with a reflector or solar light so parade leaders can see it.
  • All boats are required to use navigation lights (bow red/green) and anchor light (white) in addition to any decorative lighting.
  • Please follow all safe boating practices including the proper number of life jackets on board plus a reminder that boat drivers should not have alcohol above the legal limit in their system and there is no alcohol permitted on board any boat by law.
  • For safety and proper boating practice the parade will proceed counter clockwise so as to keep the shoreline on each boat's starboard (right) side.
  • Please keep pace with the lead boat and leave a safe distance between your boat and the boat in front of you.

Whether you are in the parade or watching from shore ... Enjoy!

The HLPOA acknowledge the lands and waters on which we meet, are the traditional homelands of the First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples. Our beautiful lakes are fed from the north and flow to the south. We therefore acknowledge the Algonquin and Mississauga peoples as well as the governance of the Williams Treaties. We wish to express gratitude to Mother Earth, the resources we are using, and honour all Indigenous people who have been and continue to live on these lands.
